It was just a matter of time before we posted a recipe for Britta:
A couple of weeks ago, we made a batch of peanut butter cookies for Britta’s Secret Santa exchange on www.weimaraneraddict.com. Britta loved these cookies so much, she ate about a third of the dough before it was even rolled out. Her Secret Santa buddies in Maryland, Butler (weim) and Gunner (GSP) loved them, too.
The secret ingredient: fat skimmed off the top of our chicken stock and chicken soup recipes. The latest batch included turkey fat from our turkey soup. It’s a great way to use something you would otherwise throw out.
We suspect Britta likes these cookies because the fat contains the flavors of everything in the soup or stock (herbs, celery, carrots, etc), and she already LOVES carrots and celery in her chicken and rice dinners. After all, she’s a gourmet kind of dog.
Look closely, there’s a minced celery peeking out of this one:
Maybe I should start thinking about decorating future cookies with carrots and celery bits.
We’re finding out the hard way that it’s not really good for her, or dad (the pooper scooper), if she gets more than a couple a day, but she looooooooves them, especially when they’re spread with an extra layer of peanut butter:
For all you dog lovers, stay tuned… gourmet dog food is just around the corner.
This year, Britta is gifting these cookies wrapped up in cute little boxes to all of her canine friends. Let her know if you’d like a box, too. Happy Holidays! [K]
