Earlier this year, I found myself in a jam and wound up in the Whole Foods prepared foods section. Desperate to quickly feed a crowd, I purchased a 5-pound container of the Greek Orzo Salad. At $9.99/pound, plus tax, this was not a cheap box of… pasta. Really?! Fifty bucks for orzo?!
Sisters. Where one goes, so does the other. It has been a joy to watch our new dog find her way around our home. She does this by shadowing her sister. From the moment they leap out of bed every morning to the moment they’re taking their evening nap, they’re never more than ten feet […]
June at the RGB: grapes dangling over the trellis, neglected artichokes blossoming, and radishes so plentiful we don’t know what to do with them all. Last year’s Meyers are still on the tree. Figs will be ready next month, squash even sooner. And each afternoon ends with another handful of strawberries. [Enter happy dance here.] […]
While traveling through the South of France, we befriended an artist who said she painted “in the evenings because that’s when the light is best.” Later that week, while driving around the countryside, we found ourselves surrounded by that late afternoon glow… and realized she was right. And ever since then, my favorite time of […]
Can you believe it’s already summer?!?! Yikes!!!! While most of you may be looking forward to the warm days and sunny skies, we’ve been dreading this moment. Absolutely dreading it… Because, my dear friends, we live in Southern California. Without. Air conditioning.
Sometimes, a girl just needs a weekend Holiday. Not because the house is a disaster, the spouse has gone missing, or the dog has gone batty. Just because. So this past weekend, a girlfriend and I holed up at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs, CA. It was everything we wanted it to be: […]
In France, people hunt for truffles. Up north, they’re lookin’ for morels. At the RGB, we’re scoutin’ for arugula. Arugula? Arugula. Last spring, while weeding in the backyard, Mr. RGBistro sniffed the air and declared that he had smelled arugula. Turns out – we have wild arugula growing between the rocks in the lower part […]
Today’s RGB garden photo: A Dutch Iris, popping up near the mandarin tree. … A moment of genius happened at the RGB on Friday. I had been spending much of the week hibernating in the kitchen as a result of a one-time project. So when noon rolled around and I realized that Mr. RGBistro had […]
If you don’t like soft, buttery beets, chances are you’ve haven’t had them the way they’re meant to be eaten. On a need it now night, we steam them. If we have a spare hour and a half (which these days we do), roasting them to bring out their sweet flavor is much better.
Rutabegorz in Tustin has this healthy eating thing down. True to their promise, their food is pretty good, too. And, they’re located right in the heart of Old Town. If they didn’t serve dinner, we’d probably ask to sublease some dinner space for our restaurant.
